Welcome to Willow!

Week beginning 03.02.25

This week, we have had great fun identifying and expressing our emotions during Children's Mental Health Week.  We used characters from the film 'Inside Out 2' to express how we felt each day, indicating this on a wheel with a coloured stamp.  It was brilliant hearing their confident and strong opinions; there was lots of talk about how their Hot Wheels tracks breaking at home can result in very long lasting angry emotions!  We have also been repeating affirmations each day and having mindful moments.  These have really supported us in focusing on our learning, too.

While we are on the subject of emotions, the children were FURIOUS to discover that a crime had occurred in Willow Class!  After reading 'This Is Not My Hat' by Jon Klassen, we talked about the importance of honesty and dishonesty, linked to our Golden Rules.  However, Mrs. Smith was very cheeky and pilfered Mrs. Rose's hat!  Mrs. Bensilum didn't listen to the children's telling off, I'm afraid...she pilfered it the next day!  The children had an excellent time using our new vocabulary to describe what was going on and give the thief a good telling off each day.

Please find Tricky Words below to practise reading at home. Feel free to print them and cut out as flashcards, see if they can read them on screen, or work together to spot them in books. These words are called Tricky Words because (at the moment), we can't sound them out - we just have to learn to read them.
