Myland Primary School - Sports Premium

The Government provides Sports Premium funding to primary schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of sports and PE provision provided.  Sports Premium funding is designed to make an impact across five key indicators:

• the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school;
• the profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement;
• increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport;
• broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils;
• increased participation in competitive sport.

How are we spending our Sports Premium at Myland?

We use our Sports Premium funding to:

• Develop the skills and capacity of our staff to deliver high quality PE teaching and coaching, by investing in specialist coaches to lead teaching and to work alongside our staff;
• Broaden the range of sports provision that we offer and to give our children the chance to participate, during curriculum time, in a range of broader sporting opportunities such as dance and yoga.
• Increase participation in sports by offering a broad range of opportunities for extra-curricular sports and physical activity and by subsidising some of these extra-curricular opportunities so that they are affordable to all families;
• Increase our participation and success in competitive sports by supporting our participation in local leagues and competitions;
• Raise the profile of sporting activities by participating in and running special one-off 'in school' sporting events such as parental engagement days, tournaments and other competitions;
• Provide additional targeted swimming provision to ensure that all Year 6 children are able to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum;
• Promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles through a focus on purposeful physical activity at lunchtimes and through the Daily Mile in curriculum time
